The Vampire Diaries Season 5 Episode 22 “Home” (Season Finale) Review/Recap: The Ultimate Sacrifice!

What!? Is The Vampire Diaries for real or is this just a clever ploy to get us to watch season six.

Let’s take a look at the emotional twister that was the season 5 finale of The Vampire Diaries “Home”.

Two faves say goodbye?.. Nooooo… I loved both Bonnie and Damon. Bonnie I understand as we had time to heal after her real death that took place just before graduation, but to also kill Damon off too?

Also, the creators did state that whoever dies now will stay dead?

Damon really did make the ultimate sacrifice when deciding to be the initiator of the mystic falls bombing,  and of course Elena joined him but ended up being safe and sound.

I’m holding on to hope that they will somehow bring at least one back, ofcourse it most likely points to Damon showing a likely return. Afterall, what was Bonnie’s grams on about on making a sacrifice? Was it for Bonnie? I sense if one is allowed to come back, Bonnie will send back Damon cause she’s good like that.

And why did they have to play Birdy’s ‘Wings’? It really tugged on our emotions like when they used ‘Skinny Love’ for Jenna and John’s funeral scene.

The Undead.. Yep everyones favourite teacher Alaric is back (Guess Matt Davis needed a new gig after the Cult cancellation).

It was all thanks to Bonnie reconnecting with the other side and bringing Stefan Salvatore back to the real world.

Plus, Enzo is back too (and Michael Malarkey is now a series regular too)! I’m sure many will be thrilled with this as fans have grown to love the English former best-friend of Damon.

Also, How badass were Caroline and Elena killing Liv’s brother Luke to persuade her to help Bonnie do the deed of opening the other side? Badass chick duo ain’t got time for bullis**t Liv.

Steroline shows hope.. Lexi said if she manages to get Stefan back to the real-world that he has to stop being a wuss over his feelings for Caroline. Just get together already, it’s already been hinted at throughout the season so it’s bound to happen sooner or later.

Travelers are kapish.. We finally said goodbye to the Travelers during the finale as they all crossed to the other side. Good riddance! They were a pain in the butt. Also props, to Sheriff Forbes for bringing down Traveler ring-leader Markos.. She’s always courageous in catering to Damon’s wants.

Tyler gets his body back.. After being killed and returning via Bonnie, Tyler got his real-self back. Along with being back, he also discovered he’s no longer a hybrid. Say what? Guess we will have to wait till season 6 to find out more.

Side-notes: Why do the TVD gang have ridiculously hot messenger pics? It was funny seeing Caroline and Matt just randomly communicating on their phones via a chat app. And why didn’t they bring back Lexi?! Garhhh,  there was a perfect opportunity right there Julie Plec. But it was true to her selfless character as she completed her unfinished business (along with taking out Markos) and moved on from the other side. Aww we love ya Lexi!

I must say this is such a shock season closer for a season that wasn’t too exciting.  It was emotional, shocking and they managed to kill two of my favourites in one go. Please bring at least one back guys.

Can’t even imagine a show without Damon either, so it will be interesting to see just where The Vampire Diaries season 6 decides to go.

And now TVD fans, we must wait an agonising few months till September/October to see if there is any hope for Bonnie and Damon.
