The Hunger Games Movie Review!

After reading the book a couple months back, was excited to see the movie and it delivered in working as a film but lacked in communicating it’s societal driven message since Katniss’s thoughts aren’t used throughout the film. It still managed to show some scenes that focused on the book’s message but did not generate enough emphasis.
Although it lacks in communicating the message to audiences who have not read the book it still provides for an entertaining film, it provided some great suspense and a little well needed comedy (Thanks To Effie).
We also got some great moments were we get to see what’s going on in the Capitol and the Districts which was lacking in the book. The cast also did a great job in playing there roles, and delivered in what there character required. There was some minor changes from the book that didn’t effect the overall film.
Some scenes felt rushed, but that’s what happens when a book is translated to screen, scenes feel longer in books when on screen it moves pretty fast , this is particularly noticeable in the cave scene and Rue’s scenes.
I felt that the film did a good job in following the events in the book and actually improved on the ending that was in the book.
The cinematography was done quite well as it matched each of the worlds such as the districts to the capitol and then the games, they also had great structure throughout the film as they flowed well into each other rather than dragging out certain areas. There was some shaky camera techniques that were mildly distracting but did not effect the overall film such as the Forest Fire scene. The Score was also lacking as many intense scenes lacked intense music, some major intense scenes had no score at all.  On the other hand, the CGI and effects were great and had no problems and the deaths were done quite well for it’s targeted audience, but did change the tone of the book, as the film felt much lighter compared to the darker and gritter tone used throughout the book.
Overall, a great film in a sure to be hit series that works well in adapting the novel to the screen, although not perfect, it is by far one of the best adaptions of a novel and serves well as a companion to the book as it adds more to the world that Suzzane Collin’s created and enhances it by delivering what was missing in the source material.
Look forward to the next installment ‘Catching Fire’!
