Another popular novel has been turned into a blockbuster Hollywood flick!
Delia Owens’s first novel ‘Where the Crawdads Sing’ (which has sold 12 million copies since it was published in 2018) has been given the movie treatment and rightly so.
Daisy Edgar-Jones plays an orphaned girl in the marshes of North Carolina named Kya in this murder mystery drama where she is accused of murdering one of her lovers.
Where the Crawdads Sing keeps you enthralled and will keep you guessing right until the film’s shock twist despite sometimes suffering from pacing issues. Daisy is although so mesmerising as Kya that the clunky pacing can be forgiven.
The film has some strong support from some big names including Reese Witherspoon who helped produce the flick. Taylor Swift also lent her vocals for the film’s theme song “Carolina” and it will be stuck in your head long after the credits roll.
Verdict: A nice cinematic break from Hollywood’s franchise machine that delivers a tantalising murder mystery drama despite suffering from some pacing issues.
