After the surprising success of Jumanji’s return to cinemas comes yet another round of The Rock centred reboot.
The entire gang is back, including both adult and young adult versions of the star-studded cast with the addition of Danny DeVito as young Spencer’s (Alex Wolff) hilarious grandfather, Eddie.
This time around young Spencer heads back into the game after struggling to fit back into his daily life after living on a high as his beefed up The Rock character.
Trapped all on his own, girlfriend Martha (Morgan Turner) gets the crew back together to rescue Spencer from his own wrongdoing as she resumes her role in the video game as bad-ass Ruby Roundhouse (Karen Gillan). Everything is not like it last was with the world of Jumanji changed entirely on its head!
Think of a new boss level, with new challenges and more at stake as the line between the virtual and real world blurs. Courage and friendship in the face of adversity is the cheat code, even with the new mods and updated strength and weakness clauses.
The Next Level sticks to the status quo by providing just enough laughs to keep everyone thoroughly entertained, which was what made the first flick so successful. With such a great line up of comedic stars like Jack Black, Kevin Hart and Dwayne Johnson – would you expect any less?!
Verdict: Hot off the success of its predecessor, Jumanji: The Next Level proves a worthy return to the updated video game version of the classic.
Game on.
