It has been almost six years since we last got an album from Canadian pop princess Avril Lavigne but she is now finally back!
The singer took a major break due to crippling health issues. She was diagnosed with Lyme Disease, a chronic and painful illness in 2014 which reportedly left her bedridden.
Breaking her hiatus, the songstress made her triumphant return with single “Head Above Water” in which she addresses her health struggles head on. A beautiful track that allows fans to see just how far she has come.
It is one of the many touching tracks on her sixth studio album.
Avril brilliantly and delicately sets up the whole album in such a way that it tells a powerful story of survival, self-love, love and finding your inner warrior.
There is even the odd appearance of Nicki Minaj on pop anthem “Dumb Blonde” which is a notable one-off track that is quite different to the overall serious tone of the project.
Best Tracks: It Was in Me, Head Above Water, Warrior, Tell Me It’s Over, Crush, I Fell in Love with the Devil and Souvenir.
Overall Rating: 7.5/10
