REVIEW: Adele soars to new heights on new album ’30’

Adele is well and truly back.

It has been six whole years since she released 25 and a lot has happened.

The UK songstress has had a divorce, become a single mom and found love again. All her pain and joy shines through on her long awaited fourth studio album 30.

This time around Adele has given fans her signature sound along with quite a bit of experimentation. Her return single “Easy On Me” is pure classic Adele but the album surprises with sensual and kind-of dance bops on “Oh My God” and “Can I Get It”. She even dabbles in a bit of reggae on “Cry Your Heart Out”. Pure excellence!

Sassy Adele also shows up on haunting track “Woman Like Me” as she seemingly takes a swipe at her ex husband as she explores what went wrong in their relationship.

While very brief and fleeting 30 is indeed full of utter emotion and heartbreak. “My Little Love” in particular showcases Adele at her most vulnerable yet as she meshes voice memos to her son Angelo with her powerful vocals. This heartbreak explodes on “To Be Loved” which will you leave you in a puddle of tears as she reflects on failed love and finding true happiness within yourself.

While gut-wrenching Adele does end things on a brighter note with “Love Is A Game” in line with the message of hope and resilience on “Hold On” as she continues to gamble on the game that is love.

Best tracks: Easy On Me, Oh My God, I Drink Wine, Hold On, Cry Your Heart Out, Can I Get It, Woman Like Me, To Be Loved, Love Is A Game.

Overall album rating: 9/10
