Bradley Cooper directs and stars in a movie about an ageing alcoholic country singer who discovers a young, hopeful singer on tour, and that singer is none other than Stefani Germanotta/Lady Gaga. A stripped back, soulful rendition shows a montage of sell out crowds and the pitfalls of fame and being on tour, almost reminiscent of last year’s Netflix doco Five Foot Two.
Shying away from performing her own songs, Gaga is convinced by Cooper to join him onstage, bringing an onslaught of joy, heartache and the overalls trials and triumphs of rising to the top. It’s not the first time a movie of this exact kind has been made, but we can already see a unique flair that distinguishes it from its 1937 predecessor with Judy Garland.
Cooper sounds like a cross of Keith Urban and Florida Georgia Line, and Gaga is glamorous yet raw, like somebody on the cusp of discovering who they really are.
Did we mention that Gaga performs in the trailer a snippet of her song “The Shallow”, which was produced by Mark Ronson?
Put us on the waiting list, we are not missing this one!
