Iron Man 3 (2013) Movie Review

IRON MAN is back in action again, and more better than ever.

I admit it, I was a little skeptical on this one after the trailers were released but was merely surprised with the outcome of this one.
The film takes it’s time to find it’s feet though, as there’s a lot of back-story and setup completed in the first quarter of the movie before the ball gets rolling.

Following from there on out we are hijacked into a non-stop action packed ride with plenty of surprising twists thrown in on the way. That’s not to say that there aren’t plenty of cliches on the way e.g the nerd turning to the dark side stereotype and other classic villain downplay plot devices.

All stereotypes aside though, there is some actual serious political debate in the film too with it attempting to comment on recent events labeling individuals as terrorist based on the same typical foreign labels. Nice touch for a otherwise light-hearted entertainment Hollywood blockbuster. If you catch this political overtone, you may just question the media’s news coverage.

Political statements aside though, the film focuses on Tony undergoing some serious emotional and personal change after the downfall of events in The Avengers.. yes the film does get referenced multiple times! Such anxieties exist over the protection of his beloved Pepper, in which he manages to damage himself by making the big mistake of giving away his address! which launches the entire film. Nice going Mr.Stark.

But turns out Mrs Pepper Potts can look after herself, and this film proves just that. Not going into details though as it could potentially spoil the entire film, in fact there’s not much more I can say about the film without giving to much away.

Now on to the film’s technical side. Gwyneth Paltrow, Ben Kingsley (The menacing Mandarin) Guy Pearce (who plays villain Aldrich) and Robert Downey Jr. deliver some serious stellar performances while the effects, music, cinematography are once again (in which most Marvel films manage to conjure up) at an exceptional standard.

Overall, it is one wildly entertaining joy ride that packs a punch by deploying fans of the man in the iron suite some unforeseen twists that setup the rest of the franchise to come. It also satisfyingly allows Robert Downey Jr. to make a exit in if he decides to hand over the reigns to someone else. If it is indeed his last, we will miss his unforgettably clever take on Tony Stark.
