Imagine Dragons lend their vocals to Ralph Breaks The Internet

Their song ‘Zero’ is in the closing credits.

Almost 6 years since 2013’s Wreck It Ralph hit theatres and introduced us to the nostalgic universe of the arcade game comes a sequel that delves further into the very infrastructure of the digital world: The Internet itself.

Hot off the success of their Evolve Tour, the Grammy Award winning band have made a bold choice to pen the end credits song in Ralph Breaks the Internet. Aptly named ‘Zero,’ it explores the struggle to accept one’s identity when a friendship with a friend is threatened.

Lead singer Dan  Reynolds explains that “it’s a pretty timely movie in a lot of ways in that
it addresses some of the issues of identity and loneliness unique to this internet generation,” says
Reynolds. “Ralph’s internal struggle for self-acceptance really resonated with us, and this song
speaks to that.”

He elaborates by saying that “The song is a dichotomy in some ways, with sometimes heavy lyrics over pretty upbeat instrumentation. The result is a tone that is somewhat bittersweet, which felt appropriate
given the complexity of Ralph as a character.”

It’s got a catchy hook with upbeat instrumentation, with the repetitive chorus “Hello hello, let me show you what it’s like to be a zero, zero // Let me show you what it’s like to always feel, feel, Like I’m empty and there’s nothing really really, real. ”  Compared to Owl City’s ‘When Can I See You Again?’ from 2013 predecessor, there’s certainly a sense of isolation.

In the meantime, see if you can pick out all the references embedded in the lyric video.

Ralph Breaks The Internet hits Aus theatres Boxing Day.

Zero is  Available Today from KIDinaKORNER/Interscope Records, and will be featured on the Walt Disney Records album.
