Game of Thrones 4×06 “The Laws of Gods and Men” Recap

Laws are bound to serve justice, but can any law of either gods or men save Tyrion?

1. Stannis Baratheon strikes gold.. It seems Stannis has come into some money. Davos managed to convince the Iron Bank to lend him a sum of gold to fight his war against Tommen Baratheon. I find it interesting how Davos is always praising Stannis yet to win his war he needs to use other people’s troops, Bravos’ money and Melissandre’s magic. Some chosen one if you ask me. I’m not confident the Iron Bank has made a profitable investment.

2. Yara fails to rescue Theon.. It’s official Theon has gone bananas. His mind is broken, now believing himself to be Reek, and refusing a rescue attempt led by Yara. It does seem that Theon Greyjoy is truly dead. I had a suspicion he might have just been playing along but this episode confirmed he is void of any willpower or sense of awareness.

3. Daenerys holds court.. The Mother of Dragons is now the Mother of Meereen. It was interesting to watch Daenerys be put on the spot when told she crucified an activist against slave ownership. Perhaps Daenerys should have learned more about the individuals she killed before nailing them to a cross. Impulse is rarely beneficial in politics, but if its any consolation at least he gets a decent burial.

4. A Small minded Council.. It is amazing how the Lannisters and their minions can sit idly by and stick their heads in the sand like an ostrich flock. If three dragons in the east is of no concern to them then the White Walkers must seem like a piece of cake. By the way wasn’t a message sent out from Castle Black in either season 2 or 3? Why is no one responding to the White Walker crisis?

5. The Trial of Tyrion Lannister.. Wow wow and wow. Where to begin with this momentous occasion. I believe we’ve seen some new lows in the Lannister’s cunning. When you think they cannot be any more devious they bring Shae out to deliver a load of lies to the gallery. Jamie however is the exception. Since his captivity and journey with Brienne he has shown considerable change, and this episode we have seen evidence of this. I admire his sacrifice of his own ambitions and dreams to save the life of his brother, but only time will tell as to whether his sneaky sister and father will abide by the conditions. By the way I would hate to be Jamie the next time he speaks privately with Cersei. It also looks like we have a trial by battle to look forward to. Considering Tyrion’s track record in the Veil I don’t think there’s anything to worry about.

Conclusions: Laws have been bent and lies told to settle the score over the death of Joffrey. It seems that man made laws have failed to serve justice but the old and new gods may yet spare Tyrion in a trial by battle. For his sake I hope the odds are in his favor.

5/5
