Names of kings, names of doomed men, are they one and the same in Westeros?
1. The coronation of King Tommen… The new king has been officially crowned and it seems that the Westerosi are predicting a fair and prosperous reign. Two marriages are in the works, and perhaps Margaery has found the match that she deserves. One has to admit she has rotten luck with men. Cersei on the other hand, I don’t hold much hope for her marriage to Loras Tyrell.
2. Daenerys will rule… The Mother of Dragons will stay in Meereen to finish what she started in Slavers Bay. I was wondering when she would realise that her actions have consequences. It will be interesting to see if she can regain her hold over Yunkai and Astapor, but at the very least I think Daenerys will be able to keep a firm hold of Meereen, and rule in a dignified and honorable manner.
3. Sansa Stark reaches the Veil… My assumptions were right. Sansa has forsaken one prison for another. Her aunt is hopelessly jealous of Baelish’s feeling of repsonsibility for Sansa Stark, and plans to marry the girl to her son. Aside from marrying her first cousin, what a revolting mother in law.
4. Arya’s list… The hound learned of Arya’s death list, and the list keeps on growing. I remember when it was a mere handful of names, now there are at least a dozen. I thought he would have a bigger reaction to learning his name was on the list though. He probably is passing her list off as girlish stupidity. This is a grave underestimation of Arya’s determination.
5. Podrick earns some respect… The appointment of Podrick to Brienne is hilarious, reminding me so much of her travels with Jamie, well before they were captured. She was quite shocked to learn that Podrick has spilled blood. I think she has learnt not to judge a book by its cover, and seriously, she should not be so judgmental. In the second season she herself faced mockery for aspiring to join Renley’s Kings Guard.
6. Bran is freed… Thanks to Jon Snow and Bran’s warg abilities the group are once again on the road to finding the three eyed raven. Meanwhile the mutineers were defeated, and Crastor’s remaining daughters liberated.
7. A mothers gift… There was a brief moment between Oberyn and Cersei that was interesting. You can really see that Cersei loves her children, and she misses Marcella deeply. I believe Prince Oberyn though. I don’t think the people of Dorne are abusing the girl. She is probably safer there than at Kings Landing.
Conclusions… A new king, a new age and doomed men. Tommen has inherited a throne tarnished by the actions of his brother, and we all know the body count of kings in Westeros. Like the other kings he has an expiry date, decided by the number of enemies he makes, and the amount of Joffrey’s enemies who wont hold past grievances against the new king. He is under experience, with an unstable north, the looming threat of the White Walkers, the Wildling invasion and eventually an invasion by Daenerys Targaeryn. I wouldn’t like to be in his shoes.
