Cult Season 1 Episode 1 “You’re Next” Review! (Series Premiere)

Got a sneak peek at this new show, went into this show not expecting much but came out intrigued and wanting more!

Let’s take a look at the pilot, and whether the show is worth the watch.

The show-within-a-show concept.. it’s a little cheesy, but adds to the fun of the show, and certainly adds to a sense of major creepiness due to its similarities in real life. It’s really well executed with the show being both in The CW, same promo designs, promotionals and name. It really adds to the intrigue. I look forward to seeing more on the connection to the reality within the show.

The leads.. These two are really likable they also have a chemistry .. (which is always a bonus). I sense a hook-up between them in the near future already. I also am intrigued to learning more about the Jeff (TVD alumn Matt Davis) and Skye (short-live Melrose Place 2.0’s Jessica Lucas) as to why she’s so interested in the ‘Cult’ fandom.. Is her father’s disappearance linked to the spooky show? And how so? The questions are already building, good work Cult!

Billy Grimm.. I cant wait to learn more about this guy, as to whether or not he has anything to do with the actual reality cult or if his just playing his part on a hit show. Must say though, they did a really good job in making him into a disturbingly creepy cult leader.

The brother.. Another intriguing element to the show is just how the brother got into it and why he plays a major part it. He warned Jeff not to insert the M painted logo CD, now the ‘Cult’ is after him! Also interesting is learning more about where he went to and the TV show’s famous line that convinced that poor role-player to shoot herself. Pretty intense stuff were dealing with.

Members of the following..Another aspect i’m keen on, is the other character’s involvement within this mysterious cult.. What is the cop’s involvement and why? (i knew from the moment she questioned Jeff, she was no good) and the diner lady’s issues, why did she kidnap the writer?.

Overall an overall well-executed and intriguing introduction to a show that posses major potential, let’s hope the follow-up episodes deliver and offer us something excitingly fresh.

Overall Rating:

4.1/5
