Christina Aguilera – ‘Liberation’ (2018) Album Review

She’s back!

After a long six years, Christina Aguilera has finally dropped her eighth studio album!

During this time, Xtina has done a lot of soul searching and reflection which shows on the aptly titled “Liberation”.

She tackles everything from love, sex, finding yourself, facing your fears and getting up after being knocked down in life.

One of the biggest highlights on the album is her collaboration with Miss. Demi Lovato, a woman who many label as the second coming of Xtina. Their vocals are insane on “Fall In Line” as both bring their powerhouse skills to an effortless, pristine level.

There is even a little Michael Jackson on “Maria” as Christina sings alongside a sample of his youthful voice.

Other stand-outs on the long awaited project is emotion-heavy tracks like “Deserve”, “Masochist” and “Unless It’s With You”. Christina just excels when it comes to powerful ballads. I mean, who can forget her timeless anthem “Beautiful”?

She is also not one to shy away from discussing human sexuality and does so with sensuality and coolness on “Pipe” and funky “Right Moves”.

“Accelerate” on the other hand is in a league of its own. The track drew mixed reactions from fans, many questioning why it was even released as the first single off the album. But after listening to the entire body of work it’s no surprise why they decided to push it.  With today’s current radio trends, it seems the most marketable from ‘Liberation’ and does somehow grow on you after several listens.

Verdict: Christina Aguilera finds herself during her six year hiatus and delivers a cohesive, emotional and beautiful LP.

Best Tracks:  Deserve, Fall In Line, Masochist, Right Moves, Twice, Pipe, Unless It’s With You.

Overall Rating: 8/10
