Arrow Season 2 Episode 23 “Unthinkable” (Season Finale) Review: A New Era Begins!

The Slade chapter came to an end last night,  in an explosive and nerve-wracking conclusive season finale.

Lets take a look at the epic finale, and go over just what the show has left for us to ponder over.
Slade Fails.. We all knew that  Slade will be brought down by Oliver, and it finally happened as Oliver made his finale move in an elaborate takedown.
I was literally on the edge of my seat when Slade forced Oliver to choose between Felicity and Laurel. The stakes were so high that I couldn’t even fathom that one could die. I actually thought it was going to happen but glad they were both kept alive as I love both these ladies on the show.
Now,  Slade’s Mirakuru army is no more, his side-kick Isabel Rochev/Ravager is dead and Starling is safe for another year.
Oh, and Slade is now locked away back at the island under A.R.G.U.S. Take that Slade! your back where you began. Will he stay there for good though? I really hope he does, but you never know with Arrow.
Adios Sara.. After bringing back Nyssa to help takedown Slade, I sensed they were shipping Sara off. And so they did, as she sailed off with her ex-flame (possibly new flame again?) including her also saying a warm goodbye to her family.
It was good having her around, but it seems Sara has run her course on the show. Also, loved how they again dropped a Black Canary hint by Sara giving Laurel the black leather coat, it was a perfect fit too!
Also giggled a bit at Detective Lance giving his disapproval.

A Lance loses their life?.. Speaking of the Lance’s, we last saw Detective Lance in a life-threatening state as he coughed up blood! I was wondering why Laurel’s kidnapping scene transitioned abruptly, but it all made sense due to him getting injured.
Things aren’t looking good, but his a tough cookie so he may just pull through for season three (which has been given the go ahead).

Diggle, a baby daddy? Umm, I did not see that coming. Looks like Diggle got it on with Layla and is now having a daughter or son. The news came via Amanda Waller just when the city was about to be blown to pieces. Nice timing Amanda..

Thea takes some dark tea.. Sick of being a good girl after being betrayed yet again by a now Mirakuru free-Roy, she was fed up and gave into her evil father Malcolm Merlyn.  She really has a dark streak though after we learned she actually did shoot her father!
Guess we really have underestimated little ol’ Thea. I’m excited though to see just how her character evolves next season.
Olicity.. Fans of Felicity and Oliver together were in heaven last night. The finale was full of sneaky sweet nods to Olicity fans. Let’s start off with Oliver telling her she is his true love, umm what? Is this real? It seemed a little forced, but uh well it’s Olicity so i’ll take it.
But of course reality kicked in, and it was all apart of the plan to bring down Slade. Props to the writers for throwing us off like that, I actually bought it for a second. And if you were upset over it, they even gave you hope by hinting that the two still secretly share feelings for each other. It was such a cute moment I had to give it the feature picture for this recap.
Island Flashbacks over?.. It was speculated that Oliver  had spent some time somwhere other than the island and the season finale confirmed it! Oliver actually ended up in Hong Kong, in which he got to know Amanda Waller.
But that’s it, we don’t know how or why he is there.
I was expecting a huge death to happen like last season’s Tommy shocker but Arrow this time around decided to give our hearts a bit of a break.  The “Unthinkable” instead left us satisfied as it managed to wrap up story-arcs that spanned over from season one, along with opening new potential story-arcs for the future.

Overall Rating:

4.6/5
