This year has truly been her year to shine as she released The Way. It was a radio-hit and began to perform successfully both at home and internationally with listeners drawing many familiarities to Mariah Carey’s voice.
Yours Truly though really proves just how talented she is, it also provides her fans the particular voice/image she is thriving for. It particularly gives off an old school RNB vibe while managing to maintain a clean-cut image.
Ariana shines through on the album in ‘Honeymoon Avenue’, which opens the entire album with a chilled beat that allows room for her stunning voice to make its way without being to overpowering . The only weakness of the album is her collaboration with MIKA’s ‘Popular Song’ as it detracts from the very artists Ariana is… a girl that does not need too go for the generic pop formula.
Overall Ariana’s debut album Yours Truly is the perfect way to catapult her into the music arena, it sets her up as her own artist which is highly valuable in today’s music industry as many artists try to follow those before them without finding out just who they want to be. I applaude Ariana for this, as she has now set the standards for young artists to come.
