A Simple Favour (2018) Film Review

Is it really the new Gone Girl?

A favour is never as simple as it demands.

Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick play unlikely besties, mummy blogger Stephanie Smothers and stylish business woman Emily Nelson in this Paul Feig (Bridesmaids, Spy) directed mystery/drama. But when Emily (Lively) goes missing, Stephanie (Kendrick) discovers her best friend wasn’t all what she seemed. The film also stars the handsome Henry Golding from mega hit Crazy Rich Asians who plays Emily’s husband, showcasing the rise of the up-and-coming actor.

How well do you really know someone? And would you trust them with your life? These are all particular questions raised within this genre-bending flick that tackles all the turmoils of friendship, love and psychology.

It really makes you question just how far would you go when it comes to doing a simple favour for someone. Especially when the thought of helping strangers already dreads us as it is!

A Simple Favour does not although take itself too seriously despite its clever marketing push, so don’t go into the film expecting the next Gone Girl.  All that aside, its stylish visual and audio palette gives audiences something fresh to enjoy as they sip on the martini of elegance and suspense.

Verdict: A quirky, stylish and unique mystery flick that doesn’t take itself too seriously.

Overall Rating: 8/10
