It’s been two years since the first Fifty Shades hit theaters, causing quite the wave back in the day.
But it seems now that the dust has settled and people are a bit more tricky to shock.
Fifty Shades Darker may sound more erotic then it’s predecessor but it is still quite tame for such subject matter. It does however amp up the darkness by exploring more of Grey’s past and ups the anti in terms of plot.
Picking up right where we left off, Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) is avoiding Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan) until he finally manages to get her back (which isn’t very long). From there we begin to see a new side of Grey that is quite vulnerable and sweet. Anastasia really has well and truly done a number on him…
But not everything is butterflies and rainbows for the pair as things take a dark turn when Grey’s ex-lovers begin setting their sights on his girl!
And yes, there are still plenty of sex scenes to be seen here (even though quite short) for those who are wondering. Nudity isn’t any different here either so pervs beware as there is nothing new to see here.
While it may not be any raunchier, it does really nail the soundtrack department with major artists Sia, Taylor Swift, Zayn and Halsey delivering some major pop tunes for the film. Cinematography is also stunning here too, with superb wide-shots/scenery along with great costume and set design. So yeah, if you don’t get anything out of the plot and into the artsy side of film you have that on your side.
Verdict: If you enjoyed the first one, you will likely get a kick out of this in all its cheesy glory. It’s like a long soap opera on the big screen.
As for newbies and people not into the above, you may be bored and perhaps slightly confused. But hey, you’ll still at least have a laugh somewhere along the way as it knows what it is and doesn’t take itself too seriously.
