The smash-hit that is Gossip Girl came to an end last night. And did it go out in epic fashion?
Oh, yes as it managed to pack in a full 40 minutes of non-stop drama, humor and numerous guest spots.. All the things that made this show the phenomenon that it was.
Let’s take a look at all the major events of GG’s finale episode EVER!
Source : PopSugar
Blair & Chuck (Chair).. The never ending tale of the two love-birds that constantly placed obstacles between each other finally came to a close, and in a truly sweet way too as the two had nothing left to hold them back anymore. Bart Bass is gone and no-one seems to care, it was funny how suddenly everything disappeared on it’s own.. but were not complaining as we had no time to make a quick stop.
Also who else loved the support they got from all there friends and family! It was a truly sentimental moment when we got to see everyone come-together for Chair. Imagine Dragon’s “It’s Time” also added to the happiness and cheer fans were feeling over the little wedding ceremony.
Serena & Dan (Derena).. The two finally re-united for good after learning the major revelation that Dan is Gossip Girl! (More on that later!). Serena got off her flight, as soon as she read the information Dan had given her in the previous episode. The information she discovered made her realize that Dan was not as bad as she thought and brought up the realization of the struggles Dan faced into moving up the social ladder just to win her affection. Come on you’ve got to give him props for the lengths he had to go through.. taking on a whole new mysterious identity as a girl! I don’t think much guys can pull that one off.
The Big Reveal.. At this point I had to get a firm grasp of my seat as the long prepared moment came earlier then expected. I was expecting the big reveal to happen right before the episode ended but i was wrong and glad it turned out the way it did otherwise we would all be left scratching our heads.
The way they delivered the flashbacks was superb as it managed to piece a few pieces together of what led Dan into becoming the almighty Gossip Girl.. It made complete sense as he always struggled to break into the life of Manhattan’s elite (the line will forever be heard in the echoes of Kristen’s Bell’s pot-stirring voice) and how else could Gossip Girl’s lines be so poetic and meaningful as only a writer could constantly whip up such lines over the years.
It was also hilarious seeing the gang’s reaction to the news that it was Dan particularly Blair stating that “I always thought it was Dorota”. She spoke the truth of what many fans speculated over the years. Serena even managed to think it was Rufus at one point (hysterical).
Five Years Later.. The episode did not falter as we reached the finale minutes as Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage delivered the final cherry on top with a fitting sound backdrop of Florence + The Machine’s “You’ve Got The Love”. We got to see just how our fellow UES’s were doing in the future! and yes it was all smiles as Chuck and Blair had a little boy named Henry (Chuck started using this name after the car-crash) and looked immensely happy with there lives. Blair’s parents still living happily, Lily ending up with William and Rufus with singer Lisa Loeb, Nate being single but super powerful with The Spectator with the intention of running for Mayor! Jenny & Eric back in NY, Dorota still taking on the role of house duties but now with Blair’s son (the circle of life) and Serena and Dan got married!! Can it be anymore perfect?
Side-Notes.. How amazing was the gossip girl reveal cameo montage (it was one of the best highlights of the night).. Vanessa, Juliet, Agnes, NYC Mayor and the brilliant cameo by Rachel Bilson and Kristin Bell. It was a nice nod to fans of Josh Schwartz other well-known (still my fav) teen series The OC. It was also hilarious to see Kristen reading out her usual GG lines in a different context.
Verdict.. Overall, a satisfyingly epic conclusion to the phenomenon that was Gossip Girl. Thank you for entertaining us over the years with all the comings and goings of the ever-so intriguing UES socialites.
Josh Schwartz has showcased once more his truly immense talent of creating entertaining and re-defying teen dramas.
I’ll leave use with the final Gossip Girl quote ever and remember you always have the DVD’s to relive the entire series over and over again (with a whole new perspective, now that we know who GG is!)
” You may be rid of Dan Humphrey, but you’ll never be rid of me. There’s always someone on the outside … Who am I now? That’s one secret I’ll never tell. “
Overall Rating:
5/5
(yes it lives among the best series finales to-date)
Goodbye Gossip Girl, Thanks For The Memories..
