Miley Cyrus – Bangerz (Track-By-Track) Album Review

Miley’s comeback album has arrived and it’s something very different from the recent ‘We Can’t Stop’ twerking girl we have come to endure.

Below is a track-by-track look at the album..

1. Adore You – (3.5/5) Nice way to open the album, it sort of breaks the expectations set by the albums title as it’s a slow jam.. far from what we’ve seen from ‘We Can’t Stop’ offering fans something different yet again.

2. We Can’t Stop (4.5/5) First single, everyone knows it, we can’t stop singing along to it = Successful first single. Even if you abhor it.. i’m sure you’ve found yourself singing along to it at some point. This track is probably the best Miley does within fitting the urban flavor persona.

3. SMS (Bangerz) Ft. Britney Spears (3/5) This had alot of potential going for it but just doesn’t go nowhere. The melody overpowers the entire thing making this an unforgettable mess. The closing beat that channels Salt N Peppa is the only fun thing about this track.
4. 4×4 Ft. Nelly (3/5) Okay this is catchy as Miley continuously pronounces the chorus through her southern belle accent, it gives a flashback to ‘Hoedown Throwdown’ (yes i know she’s long gone past those days). It’s just a fun sort of track that makes you want too go to an American themed cowboy bar/burger place.
5. My Darlin (2.8/5) This reminds me of ‘Loveee Song’ by Rihanna which featured Future (coincidence?) and I didn’t like that song on first listen.. It’s just to slow and goes nowhere with Future once again applying his lazy voice to the track (not shading him though, it just doesn’t suit this sort of track).
6. Wrecking Ball (5/5) I loved this track the moment it came out, as it has everything Miley works best with.  It expresses some raw emotion within her deep verses before it breaking out into a belting chorus that will haunt you for weeks.
7. Love Money Party (2/5) Another boring track that just doesn’t suit the singers voice as she tries to keep up with the beat-heavy track. This just does not connect like ‘We Can’t Stop’ does.
8. #GETITRIGHT (3.4/5) Rihanna’s influence returns here again, remember Rihanna’s sex heavy track “Watch N’ Learn”.. well Rihanna had plenty of them and now it’s Miley’s turn. The lyrics are of coarse blatantly about sex, it’s fun but is lacking a certain freshness to it.
9. Drive (5/5) This song works on all levels with Miley’s voice. It’s packed with emotion and has a dark-pounding beat to go along with it. The chorus is one that I’ve been singing all day since i heard it, making it one of the stand-outs of the album.
10. FU (4/5) The repetition of the chorus works here fore Miley as it blends quite with the uptempo beat, it’s basically a ballad wrapped in an different package as she reflects over choosing someone she knew was bad for her (‘I Knew You Were Trouble’ anyone?).

11. Do My Thang (3.8/5) Another catchy track with another urban styled beat, it has good moments but sometimes seems a bit disjointed between the chorus and verses.

12. Maybe You’re Right (5/5) Miley oozes emotion once again within this track. Her high notes are on-point when she breaks down into the line “you might think im crazy”, it makes you want to yell along with her on a long road-trip.

13. Someone Else (4/5) This is another laid back emotion-heavy track that falls a bit flat at points due to its repetitiveness. It’s still a great track on the album but lacks any oomph.

Best Tracks To Download: Drive, Maybe You’re Right, 4×4, Wrecking Ball & We Can’t Stop
Avoid: My Darlin & Love Money Party.

VERDICT: The album is a mixed bag. Miley tries something new on this album but instead proves she works best when she’s in her comfort zone, If she pushes it into urban territory she loses the strength of her talent. It’s a shame her previous effort ‘Can’t Be Tamed’ was unsuccessful which lead her to trying new waves this era as that seemed to fit Miley much more.
So all in all I guess Miley just needs to be, well.. more Miley.

Overall Rating:
7.8/10
