“Bro’s before hoes”. “Masturbate before first date”. If you need to brush up on your “bro-code” and haven’t been keeping to date with Zac Efron’s washboard stomach, Neighbours (2014)is one of the must see movies of this year.
Neighbours story revolves around a couple with a new born baby who face unexpected difficulties when a fraternity decides to move in next door. The constant parties make it difficult for the main characters Kelly (Rose Byrne) and Mac (Seth Rogen) as they struggle with being responsible parents and wanting to go out and party like they used to in their college days. The only “solution” they have to keep the constant party noise to an all-time minimum, is to infiltrate the parties and take down the President of the DELTA fraternity, Teddy (Zac Efron).
The narrative is not the strongest, however the comedy and the improvising is exceptional (especially by Seth Rogen) making it engaging. The audience overlooks the storyline and are constantly anticipating the next joke. Neighbours (2014) always has us laughing at the idea of a fraternity house and the ridiculous nature of this kind of “bro” culture. With ludicrous notions of wanting to be on the wall of fame for coming up with games like Beer Pong, we laugh at Teddy’s attempt to be remembered for something, making up for his lack of performance in school.

Neighbours (2014)doesn’t live up to the hype it had created, however it doesn’t let us down either. And I must say our very own Aussie Rose Byrnes does not disappoint! Being amongst the master of improvisation Seth Rogen, she holds up very well next to him and they play off each other remarkably. It was smooth, natural and funny! It was rarely cheesy and very well received. Right on Rose!
If you’re looking for a laugh and an easy-to-watch movie, this movie is not to missed! Not only does Zac have his top off for half the movie, we can also drool over Dave Franco, laugh at Seth Rogen and envy Rose Byrne.
