Foxes – Glorious (Album Review): Bright and Ambitious Vocalist Takes Listeners Into The Unknown.

Foxes, famous for calibrating with Zedd on “Clarity” is no one-hit wonder.

The England beauty’s debut album proves just that, demonstrating that she will not be boxed into the typical EDM radio-friendly music scene.

Glorious proves what a capable and unique talent Foxes is. It’s a shame although, that most of the tracks were revealed before the album was even dropped. It also didn’t help that the album was delayed from the original  March release to May, which gave more time for listeners to listen to the already-released tracks.

It was probably for marketing and charting reasons though, so we will forgive those pesky music labels for making us wait so long.

Strangeness, conflicting emotions and the unknown are central themes on Foxes (Louisa Rose Allen) first solo outing, as she tries to make sense of the life around her. Tracks like “Holding onto Heaven” and “Youth” for example show that she is clinging on to something already gone and of concepts of unrealistic expectations of peace and happiness while “Youth” on the idea of redefining what growing up is all about. These are particular themes many listeners can identify and relate to, which make this listening experience an intriguing and touching one.

Louisa is a triple threat, as she proves herself an outstanding live vocalist on her stunning live version of “Clarity”. I actually had the pleasure to see her perform live in Sydney and she sounds exactly like we hear on the record. Am emotion heavy and delicate voice that makes you want to dance, sway and break down into a heavily deep sing-a-long session. She truly is an artist that don’t need no auto-tune machinery, ya hear!

The album is a tremendous first effort from Foxes as it truly fits the alternative mainstream pop genre. I feel the album needed a bit of extra variety though, as to showcase how adaptable she is to music genres. These include what we saw in her collaborations with Rudimental on “Right Here” and Zedd‘s “Clarity”.

Plus the release of tracks before the album make it seem like we’ve heard it all before, besides a few minor extras. If you saved yourself for the album in full, you will most certainly be pleased with fresh excitement over the tracks. Though for people who have heard most of the tracks, you may already feel like you need her follow-up album.

Tracks You Need To Listen To Hear: Youth, Night Owls Early Birds, Glorious, Beauty Queen, The Unknown.

Overall Rating:
8/10
