The Veronicas are well and truly back. After an almost seven year album hiatus the girls have finally dropped their new album ‘Godzilla’ which serves as the first of two albums to be released with chapter two titled ‘Human’ to be unleashed in June.
While the girls have since released single droplets since releasing their self-titled album in 2014 it’s a quite a big moment for fans and the Aussie duo to have a full album out in the world again. After personal issues and several label dramas the journey to album four was not an easy one.
Some of the songs on ‘Godzilla’ were even recorded years ago and it’s such a pleasure to see these tracks finally see the light of day. Their infectious 2016 banger “In My Blood” has also found a home here alongside 2017 single “The Only High”.
From the get-go, Godzilla sounds like a nostalgic return to the girls’ iconic Hook Me Up era on title-track “Godzilla”.
Lisa and Jess also prove on this record just how in sync they are with what is currently trending in the music world as they serve up a delicious serving of 80’s synth pop on stunning tracks “Stealing Cars” and “High Score”. Both tracks sound like songs you would hear in an episode of Stranger Things.
It also wouldn’t be a Veronicas album without a rock-pop banger. “Silent” is that girl here and it’s screaming (literally) to be a single! They’ve even recruited former Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker for the powerful track.
Verdict: The Veronicas prove they are unstoppable on Godzilla. Despite all the drama the pop twins remain strong and loyal to their beloved fans. Welcome back girls! We missed you.
Best Tracks: High Score, Stealing Cars, In My Blood, Kaleidoscope, Silent, 101, Sugar Daddy and The Only High.
