from enemies to friends to enemies again
They’ve done it again! Taylor and Kanye have created arguably one of the most talked about feuds in pop culture history. From Kanye’s shocking ambush of Taylor’s VMAs speech to those ‘Famous’ lyrics, the pair have had their ups and downs over the past seven years. Struggling to keep up? Let’s recap some of the major milestones below.
September 2009: MTV Video Music Awards
It all started when Kanye ambushed Taylor’s acceptance speech. Taylor was just 19 when she won Best Female Video award for “You Belong With Me’, so she took the stage to accept her award, only to have Kanye interrupt and steal her spotlight in attempt to defend his BFF Beyoncé, who was also nominated in the same category for ‘Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)’.

“Imma let you finish, but…” and we all know how it ends.
Beyoncé cringed in the audience, Taylor looked like she was about to cry, and Kanye concealed his face with a pair of oversized sunglasses. So awkward.
Taylor later told ABC radio that Yeezy had called her to apologize. “Kanye did call me and he was very sincere in his apology, and I accepted that apology,” she said.
February 2015: 57th Annual Grammy Awards
It appears Kanye and Taylor have finally put the past behind them, six years after the VMAs incident. The pair was snapped posing with one another at the Grammys. Taylor even caught up with Kanye’s wife Kim Kardashian-West and is that a rare Kanye smile we see?!

August 2015: MTV Video Music Awards
This is when Kanye and Taylor really became friends, after Taylor present Kanye with the Video Vanguard Award at the VMAs. Taylor jokingly made reference to the 2009 VMAs mishap, saying “I’m really happy for you and Imma let you finish but Kanye has had one of the greatest careers of all time,”. Kanye sent her a bouquet of white roses to thank her for being so ‘gracious’.

February 2016: New York Fashion Week
The Yeezy Season 3 Fashion Show is where Kanye previewed his new album, The Life of Pablo. This was the first time the world (and apparently T-Swift) heard Kanye’s song ‘Famous’, the controversial track off Kanye’s new album.
“I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex/ Why? I made that b***h famous,”. These are the lyrics that reignited yet another Taylor/Kanye conflict. Kanye claims Taylor approved the song before its release, although her reps deny this ever happened. Several members of Taylor’s #squad leaped to her defense.
July 2016: The Plot Thickens
Kanye’s wife Kim releases a video of a secret recording of Taylor’s phone conversation with Kanye. DRAMA.

The Verdict: Bad Blood
After almost seven years from the first Yeezy-Swift conflict, this saga has undoubtedly reached an epic new level. It took a number of years for Taylor and Kanye to become friends and it only took one line of one song to undo it all.
