Aussie Pop Star Makes Broadway Debut in ‘Anastasia’

He will be playing the part of Dmitri.

Heart, don’t fail me now!

For once, Hugh Jackman is not in  this Broadway production, although you could certainly be forgiven for thinking that.

None other than Aussie pop singer Cody Simpson is set to take over the next slate of the musical about an orphan whose mysterious past is connected to Russian royalty.  She enlists the help of two con men who help her journey to Paris, where the secret of her lineage and true happiness lies.

Originally a  1997 20th Century Fox animated feature starring Meg Ryan and John Cusack, it has since has been staged since Broadway 2017, with several cast changes. Most recently Zach Adkins played Dmitri, so Simpson will be stepping into some big shoes.

Writer Terrence McNally said of the tale, “It’s a wonderful mystery, fairy tale, romance.

“It’s the most modern story I could think of. It’s the search for identity, roots, family connection.

“What mysteries lie in our lineage? That’s why it continues to speak to people.”

Cody Simpson samples the hit song ‘Journey to the Past’ ina  video message below, and indicates he will begin performing on November 29.

Cannot wait.
