Kesha jumped onto the music scene in 2010 with her party anthem TiK ToK and everyone expected big things from her. What we didn’t expect is for her to go public with sexual abuse allegations against her producer, Dr Luke. After years of battling to get out of her contract so that she could make new music, Kesha has finally returned with an amazing new single Praying, and it is powerful AF.

The song and video starts with Kesha talking about how miserable she has been feeling and build to a beautiful song about moving on and redemption. She wrote an accompanying letter which was published in Lena Dunham’s website Lenny Letters which explains the emotions behind her lyrics:

This song is about me finding peace in the fact that I can’t control everything — because trying to control everyone was killing me. It’s about learning to let go and realize that the universe is in control of my fate, not me.”

The song is the first in 5 years, and the first of her upcoming album RAINBOW which is set to be released on August 11.

RAINBOW marks a new beginning for Kesha, one based around inner strength and musical exploration as she achieves her vision for the album by enlisting a roster of collaborators ranging from Eagles of Death Metal to Dolly Parton. A lot of her songs have been produced by huge name stars like Ben Folds and Praying is produced by Ryan Lewis (from Macklemore & Ryan Lewis).
