8 Reasons Why the World Needs the New Oceans 8 Movie

We’re almost up to our knees in Ocean’s Movies! George Clooney played casino heister Danny Ocean in the 2000 movie that spanned two sequels in 2004 and 2007, alongside Catherine Zeta Jones, Matt Damon, Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts. Even before him, there was the original Rat Pack of the 60’s that saw old school smooth crooners Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr pull off a similar operation. Yeah, those guys your grandfather might have listened to way, way back.

Las Vegas is the perfect hotspot to make a buck or two, and with the skill, precision and comic relief of this stellar ensemble, you’d think it was safe to leave it at just that.

So why exactly do we need an all-female cast to front up the new remake?

Let’s break it down:

  1. The diversity of the cast

Mindy Kaling, Cate Blanchett, Ann Hathaway, Awkwafina, Rihanna (!), Sandra Bullock, Sarah Paulson and Helena Bonham Carter are the perfect mix not only racially, but they are across different television, acting, and music streams and are a positive representation for some women over the age of 40. Because really, if you want the perfect girl squad, your experience has to come from all over.

  1. Women are funny

The recent Ghostbusters remake copped a lot of backlash, especially over a boycott that saw people refuse to even give the film a chance. True, some people are precious with their favourite movies and sometimes follow the adage of “if it ain’t broke, why fix it,” but for others it was simply down to their reasoning that women don’t make good comedians, which is something of a joke in itself.

  1. It is actually a continuation of the story

Sandra Bullock plays Debbie Ocean, a cousin of Danny (George Clooney) who obviously learnt the tricks of the trade from him. Otherwise, she’d have quite the task ahead of her.

  1. Gary Ross is directing

The FAO Schwarz toy store in New York City was famous for its giant interactive piano, and you can thank that trend because of the movie Big. Or perhaps you studied Pleasantville in high school, the black and white movie about a 1950’s television show that Tobey Maguire and Reese Witherspoon are mysteriously transported to.

  1. It looks stripped back

We’ve only got one image to speculate about, but if our memory serves us correct, the Oceans movies had fast cars, planes and trucks. Here we see the ladies riding the humble subway. With this stripped back approach, it could be akin to Casino Royale where James Bond had to start at the beginning without the body armour.

  1. It’s set in New York

New York has more of a cosmopolitan feel to it, and there’s a guarantee that it will feature the same glam that we’ve come to expect from the Sex and the City movies.

On a side note, if you do miss the casino theme in the films you can live out the Oceans style yourself and play online roulette from your home and win money. That’s if you are into that sort of thing.

  1. The soundtrack

This is an early prediction, but we have a sneaky feeling that RiRi might just lend her vocals if she’s a star herself.

  1. The outfits

Yes, another prediction, but we remember that same Rihanna who stole the show with her yellow dress winning the Met Gala 2015, and so imagine what 7 other ladies have got in store for us. That’s them riding the grimy subway but they sure as hell look the part anyway.
