Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015) Film Review

The force is strong once again…

Now that’s how you do it!

After large backlash to the prequels of the canon that is Star Wars, it seems they have finally got it right in capturing what once made this series so captivating.

This time around the plot revolves around a new threat, with the Galactic Empire taken out. A new alliance has emerged labelled “The First Order” and at its helm is scary (and kind of Darth-Vader looking) baddie, Kylo Ren (Adam Driver). To keep in line with the spoiler-free pact, lets just say that the light side must come together to stop the dark new threat destroying the peace that was fought over so hard in previous instalments.

J.J. Abrams truly masters the force in the long-awaited sequel to Return of the Jedi, even without its creator George Lucas. He musters the right amount of nostalgia and allows the series to regain momentum.

What makes this such an engaging instalment is the seamless incorporation of both new and old generations. From Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) to the incorporation of fresh new talent. Amongst the fresh new talent, Daisy Ridley is definitely the stand-out newbie as Rey, along with John Boyega as Finn.

With plenty of twists, shocks, action and plenty of new questions, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is the perfect escape to a galaxy far, far away.

Verdict: The force is alive and well this time Star Wars fans! Awakens is a much needed breath of life that captures the essence of the original trilogy while setting up a bright new future.
