Ed Sheeran proposed, Tina Arena made everyone cry, and Tame Impala won the night. Here’s what you missed on last night’s ARIA Awards.
The very best in Aussie music came together last night to celebrate the industry and drink fancy wine straight out of coolers next to their seats. Seriously.
The big winners of the night were Tame Impala, taking out three ARIAs, and Courtney Barnett, also with three awards.
Red carpet fashion was very interesting this year with velvet making a comeback in the heat, surprisingly. Although a huge favourite was the stunning matching dresses The Veronica’s rocked up in, slaying the red carpet with their poise and grace.
Performances by Jarryd James, Peking Duck, and Vance Joy was huge hits with the crowd, but nothing could top the performance of ‘Chains’ by our new favourite girl group, The Veronicas, Jessica Mauboy and the queen herself, Tina Arena.
Tina Arena was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame and gave a killer speech addressing ageism for female artists over 40.
Oh yeah, and Ed Sheeran was there! Almost making fun of the fact that they had to make up an award just to get him there, Ed won the Diamond award (for sales in excess of half a million) and performed ‘Photograph’, bringing James Blunt as his date.
Favourite moments of the night:
Jess Mauboy freaking out over the Wiggles on the red carpet. Same girl.
Matt Okine’s speech about the lack of female nominee’s, which got cut out from the event’s broadcast.
